Sculpture in a painting

Sculpture in a painting

The hardness of the metaphoric rock transforms itself into soft skin, the inert becomes dynamic, and the cold and white marble turns warm and carnal when the sculptor’s sublime hand creates new forms that infuse life. Bernini’s and Canova’s chisels must have caressed the material while the mallet would strike using timed rhythm and creative precision. These works of art are the result of the Greco-Latin inspiration of Phidias’ evocative mastership and are capable of reaching a sublime execution in favor of a sensitive message.

The creations of these great sculptural referents are reinterpreted by Jiménez Carrero using a new pictorial perspective. Starting from this new visual perspective, the delicate technique and the formal naturalism now live together with geometrical figures and abstract backgrounds. Once again, Carrero’s art piece advances towards avant-garde, but never stops looking backwards or leaves behind the classics, art referents or the pillars of human creation. Furthermore, it gives life to the motionless sculptures when he makes them interact with a bird resting on top of a few delicate fingers, when the cloth covers the naked body or when he reunites several characters so they can converse with each other.

The result is a graceful alliance between different time periods that distills a classical type of beauty and a compositional harmony of pure forms.
